IMPHAL:
Manipur recorded 64 new Covid-19 cases since Friday night at the VRDLs of JNIMS and RIMS hospitals in
Imphal, which took the total number of cases in the state to 449.
As 91 patients have been discharged from hospitals after testing negative for the deadly virus, with 14 of them on Saturday, the number of active cases stands at 358, official sources said.
The conditions of the newly infected persons, including 36 women, are stable, and they will be shifted to Covid care facilities, a Manipur health department statement said on Saturday.
All necessary preventive measures, such as containment and contact tracing, have been taken up, said the statement signed by the department's additional director and spokesperson Khoirom Sasheekumar Mangang.
"To prevent community transmission, it is vital to wear face mask whenever moving out and all government offices have been instructed to enforce wearing them," the statement added.
Meanwhile, a meeting of the state consultative committee for Covid-19 was convened with chief minister N Biren Singh in the chair at his office secretariat on Saturday. The meeting discussed at length various issues like improvement of management committee of quarantine centres to check community spread of the novel
coronavirus within the quarantine centres and outside, officials said.
The meeting also dwelt on increasing Covid testing capacity on first-come-first-serve basis by way of procuring more testing kits and setting up of more Covid care centres.
